Twenty-one NB Fencers attend 2019 Canadian National Championships

Twenty-one fencers from New Brunswick will be among the hundreds of athletes competing at the Canadian National Fencing Championships this weekend (May 17-20) in Quebec City, QC.

The largest number of fencers come from the three fencing clubs in Fredericton. The largest club in the province, the Damocles Fencing Club, is fielding eleven fencers: Pierre Arseneau, Max Evans, Charlotte Flinn, Kaitlin Gorman, Claire Han, Cole Magee, Sophie Poitras, Aidan Reynolds, Joy Shin, Vir Singh Ranger, and Maya Sood. Thales Santos fences at the UNB Fencing Club, and the Capital Y Fencing Club is sending Jim Stevens and Wendy Yano. Yano had a particularly impressive result earlier this year at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia, where she won gold in Veteran Women’s Sabre.

The Moncton Fencing Club has three fencers competing at the Nationals: Mathieu Paquet, and Clara and Dominique Richard. From the greater Saint John area, the Escrime KV Fencing Club is represented by Rowan McInnis and Bentley Sheils, and the Fundy Fencing Club is sending Thomas Allen and David Collins.

These athletes will be accompanied by coaches Barbara Daniel (Damocles Fencing Club), Rick Gosselin (Fundy Fencing Club), Diane Raiche-Philips (Escrime KV Fencing Club), and Jim Stevens (Capital Y Fencing Club).

Vingt et un escrimeurs du Nouveau-Brunswick feront partie des centaines d’athlètes qui participeront aux Championnats canadiens d’escrime ce week-end (les 17 et 20 mai) à Québec, QC.

Le plus grand nombre de tireurs vient des trois clubs d’escrime de Fredericton. Le plus grand club de la province, le Damocles Fencing Club, compte onze tireurs: Pierre Arseneau, Max Evans, Charlotte Flinn, Kaitlin Gorman, Claire Han, Cole Magee, Sophie Poitras, Aidan Reynolds, Joy Shin, Vir Singh Ranger et Maya Sood. Thales Santos vient de club d’escrime de l’UNB et le club d’escrime de la Capital Y enverra Jim Stevens et Wendy Yano. Yano a obtenu un résultat particulièrement impressionnant plus tôt cette année aux Jeux du Commonwealth de 2018 en Australie, où elle a remporté la médaille d’or au Vétéran Sabre féminin.

Le club d’escrime de Moncton a trois escrimeurs qui participent aux championnats nationaux: Mathieu Paquet, et Clara et Dominique Richard. Dans la région métropolitaine de Saint John, le club d’escrime KV Escrime est représenté par Rowan McInnis et Bentley Sheils, et le club d’escrime de Fundy envoie Thomas Allen et David Collins.

Ces athlètes seront accompagnés par les entraîneurs Barbara Daniel (Damocles), Rick Gosselin (Fundy), Diane Raiche-Philips (Escrime KV) et Jim Stevens (Capital Y).
