Fredericton Fencer Raphael Bradley competes in Milwaukee

Fredericton sabre fencer, Raphael Bradley, a member of the National Team Sabre Program travelled to Milwaukee, Wisconsin last weekend to compete in a North American Cup competition as part of his program towards qualifying for the 2017 Cadet World Championships in Bulgaria.

Sixteen year old Raphael, a grade 11 student at Ecole Sainte-Anne struggled in the cadet (under 17) sabre event with only one victory in the pools.  He managed to make the cut but lost his first DE finishing 181 out of 233 competitors, well below his expectations of a top 64.

Raphael fenced much more strongly in the junior (under 20) sabre event.  Initially seeded 163rd, he managed four victories and two 4/5 losses in the pools with a +9 indicator placing him 54th after the pools and giving him a bye to go directly to the elimination table of 128.  Unfortunately he lost his DE to finish in 75th place in a field of 210 competitors.
