Three fencers from New Brunswick won a total of five medals<\/b> at the Quebec Youth Circuit Provincial Championships this past weekend (April 14th-15th) in Montreal.<\/p>\n

In an amazing performance <\/b>Sophie Poitras<\/b>, from the Damocles Fencing Club<\/b> in Fredericton, won the gold <\/b>in Under 15 Women’s Epee, and a bronze<\/b> in Under 17 Women’s Epee. Poitras had already taken the silver medal in Under 15 Epee at an earlier Quebec Youth Circuit tournament in Longueuil last December, but these latest achievements really showcase the results of her training over the season, especially since she won medals in their own age category (Under 15) as well as in the age category above her (Under 17).<\/p>\n

In a similar double medal win across two age categories, Damocles teammate Kaitlin Gorman<\/b> won silver<\/b> in Under 15 Women’s Foil, and the bronze<\/b> in Under 17 Women’s Foil. These achievements also represent a great development for Gorman: her previous results in both events at the Quebec Youth Circuit tournament in Longueuil had her finishing in the top eight, and now she icomes home with medals.<\/p>\n

The other New Brunswick fencer to win a medal this weekend was <\/b>Rowan McInnis<\/b> from the Escrime KV Fencing Club<\/b> in Quispamsis, who took the silver<\/b> medal in Under 13 Men’s Foil. This win is especially significant for McInnis because this was his first tournament outside of the Maritimes.<\/p>\n

These fencers were supported by Damocles coach Barbara Daniel<\/b>, as well as fellow Damocles fencers Charlotte Flinn<\/b> and Joy Shin<\/b>,<\/b> as well as Thomas Allen<\/b> and Declan Hartery<\/b> of the Fundy Fencing Club in Saint John, and Bentley Sheils<\/b> <\/b>of the Escrime KV Fencing Club.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
