A variety of fencing activities happen throughout the season - tournaments, workshops, volunteer clinics and more.  The FENB membership year begins on September 1st and the majority of clubs operate programs in conjunction with the school year (September to June).  The competition season in Atlantic Canada runs from late September to mid-June.   A calendar of events for the 2009-2010 season is now available.

Fencing Helmet - Visor Mask - Urgent Information

FIE has received the conclusions of the Sabic Innovative Plastic lab (NED), relative to the mask damaged in Odense. This lab points out two major facts:

- the analysed visor presents stresses linked to its making (injection moulding, instead of hot bend and cold setting recommended by the FIE); stress marks clearly appear at the plastic injection juncture points;

- due to the lack of protection coating against deterioration and scratches, the visor presented several significant scratches.
And moreover, some manufacturing standards imposed by the FIE Equipment Rules have not been completely adhered to.

Therefore, the Executive Committee has decided to suspend and
forbid, until further notice, the use of the transparent visor mask
both in foil and epee, at all FIE official competitions.

***Latest News***

In light of the FIE decision to ‘suspend and forbid’ the use of the visor mask at foil and epee, the CFF will no longer permit any athlete in foil and epee to wear a visor mask at CFF hosted competitions effective the start of the 2010-2011 season. This allows a period in excess of six months for athletes to equip themselves with replacement masks. In the interim, the CFF recommends that visor masks not be worn in foil or epee by athletes.
